Metal Clube - Hi, Roger! First of all, we from Metal Clube would like to thank you for your attention to our team and for giving us this interview. So... how did you get into heavy metal?

Roger - It started in 1971 when my brother bought me a new vinyl. It was Black Sabbath’s first album. I was 6 years old.

Metal Clube - What does heavy metal mean to your life today?

Roger - It means a lot. First of all in metal, there is music for every mood you are in - if you are angry or if you are sad.  But the most important thing is the rhythm.

Metal Clube - You’ve had to quit several jobs due to your lifestyle. What have you given up doing because of heavy metal and that became memorable to you?

Roger - I was married and she said to me: the music or me? What a question... music, I answered. Some friends too and other things. I can only live with music, that’s it.

Metal Clube - When did you first realize that heavy metal was interfering into your life?

Roger – During my first concert in 1979 and after that, I went to some until 1981. When I saw Ozzy, I was caught really bad... haha! It was okay.

Metal Clube - How did you come with the idea of asking to the government a pension due to the fact that heavy metal interfered into your life?

Roger - For about ten years I was searching a job wearing leather and steel on me and a metalvest. They looked at me and said that I couldn´t have the job, so I kept searching for a job, and they said “no” all the time until now. After that, I got a job as a dish washer.

Metal Clube - Your story has sprung up around the world. What do you think about this repercussion?

Roger - I think it’s good because there are some people like me and I know there are. That’s why metal is so big. It could help them to find a job, in the way that they should not be downpushed for their music.

Metal Clube - Do you believe the society has some prejudice against people who see heavy metal as a lifestyle?

Roger - If you live with it like I do - I only live for metal 24/7, I work with music by helping some bands to come out and play. So, yes, I have told people to live with me for one week, and they have said “no, it’s too much metal, you’re crazy...” hi hi.

Metal Clube - You said in an interview last year that you watched 300 concerts. How could you reach this number and what were the most memorable concerts to you?

Roger – In some concerts,  I go for free so, every time there are good concerts I go. The most memorable... it’s difficult but I’ll take one in 1980: I was going to see ACCEPT and there was this boy standing beside me, it was hot and there was someone who threw some water on him and it spilt on me. After the show, we where talking and he said, “I’m trying to make a band and we are going to get famous”, so I asked him his name and he said “Messiah”, it was the Candellmass’ singer. It was one memory but I have lots of memories.

Metal clube - What bands do you like the most?

Roger - Ozzy, Pantera, Freedom Call, Black Sabbath, Accept, Sepultura, Prosecutor (my band)  www.myspace.com/rogertullgren.

Lots of new bands... I have bought some cd’s, around 150 this year...

Metal Clube - Nowadays, you’ve been playing the guitar and the bass in two bands. Could you tell us a bit about them?

Roger - Prosecutor is a black/death/grind metal band. We are recording now so, the cd should be out in December, I think. We are going out on a tour in Europe this year, I think. It is only 20 gigs, but that’s okay.

Silverland is a rock band. We are singing in Swedish. We have done some demos. The others from the band want it that way so I had to accept it (it’s sad). ww.myspace.com/silverlandsweden

Metal Clube - Roger, our staff would like to thank you for this interview and as a unconditional fan of heavy metal, we ask you to leave a message for all that listen to heavy metal too.

Roger - Just be yourself and as Twisted Sister said, “you can’t kill rock´n´roll”.

And I wanna rock

So, from all of me to all of you: PLAY SOME HEAVY METAL

Regards,

Roger
